Some cameras on, others off. Mics muted. Work is getting done at record speed. But it has changed how we deal with it.<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"18\">We are entering an era of &#8220;<b>Cognitive Outsourcing<\/b>.&#8221; We outsource tasks, of course. But now, we are also outsourcing the small, risky, human moments that build trust and connection.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6fd23e6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6fd23e6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The Path of Least Resistance<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5aca338 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5aca338\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-path-to-node=\"20\">I\u2019ll be honest, because I do this too. Yesterday, I needed to check a fact for a strategy document I was writing. I could have reached out to someone I know who would&#8217;ve helped me in a heartbeat. Instead, I asked ChatGPT. Why?<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"21\"><b>Because asking a human feels expensive.<\/b> There is social anxiety, the risk of looking ignorant, and the wait for a reply. <b>Asking AI feels cheap.<\/b> It responds fast. It never looks bored. It will not judge me for asking a &#8220;dumb&#8221; question (and sometimes, it even invites those).\u00a0<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"22\">The brain loves shortcuts. AI becomes the social shortcut. Here is what changes:<\/p><ul data-path-to-node=\"23\"><li><p data-path-to-node=\"23,0,0\"><b>Old way:<\/b> Junior asks Senior \u2192 Senior explains the context \u2192 Trust grows \u2192 <i>Junior learns the culture.<\/i><\/p><\/li><li><p data-path-to-node=\"23,1,0\"><b>New way:<\/b> Junior asks AI \u2192 AI answers \u2192 Task completes \u2192 <i>Junior stays isolated and learns only the fact.<\/i><\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-path-to-node=\"24\">We trade relationships for efficiency. The unwritten rules. The side comments. He isn&#8217;t a fan of surprises.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/li><li><p data-path-to-node=\"29,1,0\"><i>\u201cThis client says \u2018fine\u2019 when they are upset.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/li><li><p data-path-to-node=\"29,2,0\"><i>\u201cThat policy exists, but here is how we handle it in practice.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-path-to-node=\"30\"><b>AI has none of this.<\/b> It can mirror your documents, not your quiet norms. If juniors stop \u201cbothering\u201d seniors because they have Copilot (or whatever tool you paid for), mentorship fades. You get a team of efficient islands: they share tools, but not connections.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-51a9bf7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"51a9bf7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">We Need \"Friction\" Back<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-95f0a9e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"95f0a9e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-path-to-node=\"32\">We need to reintroduce social friction on purpose. And I don&#8217;t mean the drama or chaos. I mean the simple, human contact (or connection) that AI cannot replace.<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"33\"><b>1. Human-First Onboarding:<\/b> Assign every new hire a &#8220;Human API&#8221; for the first 90 days. Their job is to expect questions. Set one rule: <i>Before asking AI, the new hire must ask their Human API three questions each week.<\/i> Track questions asked.<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"34\"><b>2. The Draft Review Ritual<\/b> AI can write the first draft. A human still owns the strategy. Once a week, run a <b>laptop-closed<\/b> strategy huddle, for example. Start with one question: <i>\u201cWhat did AI miss here?\u201d<\/i> Let seniors point out nuance, risk, and politics. AI handles words. Humans handle judgment.<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"35\"><b>3. Redefine Senior Roles:<\/b> Seniors are no longer &#8220;Answer Banks&#8221; (AI can handle the standard stuff). <b>Seniors become Context Architects.<\/b> Their job is to explain the <strong><i>why<\/i> <\/strong>behind decisions, map trade-offs, and tell the stories that help juniors understand your culture.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-811b5bf elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"811b5bf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Efficiency for Machines. Connection for Humans<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8643f2e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8643f2e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-path-to-node=\"37\">Efficiency is a good metric, in general. But, for humans, the better metric is <b>connection<\/b>.<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"38\">Who feels safe to ask questions? Who knows whom to call before the deadline?<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"39\">Do not let your quest for speed damage your culture. Check in on your quiet high performers this week.
